The brief

A twin-blade ultrasonic cutter for a bakery, cutting loaf cakes and tray bakes. Different products need different cuts, so blade positioning had to be accurate and product changeovers simple for operators.

The control system

  • Mitsubishi FX5 PLC
  • MR-J4 servo drives positioning the blades
  • 10 inch Mitsubishi GOT touchscreen for operation and alarms
  • 100 product recipes, so a changeover is a selection on the screen
  • A separate engineer mode for setup and adjustment

The result

Operators choose a product from the recipe list and run. Alarms are shown on the touchscreen, and engineers have their own mode for setup, kept separate from day-to-day operation.
