Two-vessel process control on Siemens S7-1500

Control and SCADA for two process vessels with mixing, product pumping, load cells, temperature control and CIP, built on Siemens S7-1500 and WinCC Professional with a reusable library.

The scope

Two process vessels, each with:

  • Mixing
  • Product pumping
  • Weighing on load cells
  • Temperature control
  • CIP (clean in place)

The system also provides electronic reporting of the process.

How it is built

The control system runs on a Siemens S7-1500 PLC with WinCC Professional SCADA. The Danfoss variable speed drives and the load cells connect over PROFINET, which cuts down hardwired signals and puts drive and weighing data directly into the PLC and SCADA.

A reusable library

We built the software around a reusable library of function blocks, faceplates and icons. Every valve, motor and instrument behaves the same way and opens the same style of faceplate, with auto and manual modes, overrides and alarm handling.

That makes the system consistent for operators, quicker to commission, and easier to extend: adding another vessel or instrument reuses tested blocks instead of starting from scratch.
